What I’m listening to | WXPN edition

July 30, 2014

Last Saturday, I traveled down to the Camden waterfront for WXPN’s XPoNential Music Festival, one of my favorite events of the year. It was an amazing day of music, sun and even a Forrest Gump sighting. Here are few of my favorite bands from the day:

C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band “Zydeco Boogaloo”

C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band, the wild Zydeco (a blend of Cajun and creole music) group, was the highlight of my day. They packed so much energy into their set that I thought they were going to rocket off the stage.

Hurray for the Riff Raff “Look Out Mama”

Hurray for the Riff Raff came on stage, and in a haunting, folksy, bluesy kind of way, Alynda Lee Segarra’s voice blew me away. The spirit of New Orleans was alive was in the air all day at the festival.

Strand of Oaks “Goshen ’97”

Strand of Oaks is a rock project headed up by Timothy Showalter of Philadelphia. He has a pretty incredible story, and it’s clear his life experiences find their way into his music.

Were you at this year’s XPoNential Music Festival? What are you listening to?
